Allen D. Dvorak, MD'69

Allen D. Dvorak, MD'69Sept. 11, 2009

Allen D. Dvorak, M.D., graduated from Creighton University School of Medicine in 1969. Since then, he has led a purposeful life, choosing his priorities and life’s journey with deliberation and unabashed enthusiasm.

On his curriculum vitae, the names of his family (wife Carol Ann Cockson Dvorak and their three children), the name of his parish, and his hobbies are listed before his educational and professional achievements.

Yet his commitment to his profession and Creighton University are undeniable. Dr. Dvorak was a fulltime faculty member in the Department of Radiology at Creighton University for 10 years. He then pursued private practice, at the same time continuing his leadership as a radiologist with community hospitals. He has left a positive and lasting mark on organized medicine as well as our health care system.

Dr. Dvorak has held a special interest in health care planning for more than 35 years. He has served on the Nebraska Board of Health, the Health Planning Council of the Midlands and many other organizations concerned about equal access to quality and affordable health care for all Americans. He is a past president of the Nebraska Medical Association and the Metro Omaha Medical Society.

His devotion to community service is also apparent, accounting for a full page in his four-page curriculum vitae. Those that have greatly benefited from Dr. Dvorak’s volunteerism include the Archdiocese of Omaha, Boys Town, Christ the King Catholic Church, Creighton University, and Creighton University School of Medicine. Dr. Dvorak is a member of the School of Medicine Alumni Advisory Board and also has volunteered to help with his class reunion.

The Alumni Merit Award is one of the highest awards given by the Schools and Colleges. A great respect for and involvement in faith, family, community and the University are hallmarks of individuals who receive this honor. The Creighton University School of Medicine is pleased to bestow on Dr. Dvorak its 2009 Alumni Merit Award for his substantial contributions to all of these as well as to the field of health care, this eleventh day of September, two thousand and nine.
